
Burak Picks Up Lone Victory in Defeat at Bethune-Cookman

Daytona Beach, Fla. -- Youngstown State freshman Marta Burak improved to 5-2 in dual action and 11-6 on the season with a straight set win in the Penguins' match at Bethune-Cookman on Monday afternoon.
Burak defeated Katrina Szaboova 6-2, 6-3 to pick up the lone team point for YSU in the 6-1 loss to the Wildcats. With the win, BCU improves to 12-2 in dual matches this year.
The Penguins put up a strong fight at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. At No. 2, Lauren Hankle battled back after dropping the first set, 6-0, to win 6-4 and force a third-set tiebreaker against Chinatsu Kajiwara. However, Hankle dropped the third set 11-9. At No. 3, Carolyn Jesko also forced a third set after dropping the open before falling. Jesko lost 6-4 in the opening set to Stacey Speller before winning the second set 6-4. In the tiebreaker, Speller won 10-6 to earn the victory.
At No. 4 singles, Gimena Puppo lost 6-3, 6-4 to Shereen Peterson-Paul.
In doubles play, Burak and Jesko won at No. 1, but the Wildcats earned the point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3.
YSU returns to action on Tuesday when it faces Northern Illinois.
