Penguins Begin 2012-13 Indoor Slate at YSU Icebreaker

The Youngstown State men's and women's track and field teams opened their 2012-13 indoor seasons on Saturday afternoon at the YSU Icebreaker held at the WATTS. The women picked up three wins while various Penguins earned victories as unattached athletes.
For the women, Katey Heney won the 5,000 meters (18:53.11), Jen Neider won the shot put (14.06 meters) and Megan Wesner won the weight throw (15.19 meters). Heney won the 5,000 by almost seven seconds.
Nina Grambling was second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.76 seconds in her YSU debut while Alexis Washington was third at 7.78 seconds. Washington was second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.16 seconds.
Alteeka Vanwright finished third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.25 seconds. Kendell Homan was third in the 60-meter hurdles clocking in at 9.14 seconds.
While Neider won the shot, Allison Roth finished second with a distance of 13.54 meters.
For the men, Nick Bell was second in the 60-meter hurdles clocking at 8.28 seconds, John Seaver was second in the shot put with a heave of 17.02 meters and
In their collegiate debuts, freshman Jay Jakovina was third in the high jump with a leap of 1.99 meters, freshman Kodie Fennell was fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:59.08.
The Penguins return to action in mid-January when they compete at the Great Dane Invitational in Albany, N.Y.
