YSU Opens Dual Action With Meet at Marshall

Huntington, W. Va. - The Youngstown State swimming and diving program opened the dual portion of its 2012-13 at Marshall on Friday night at Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium. The Penguins won five events as Ashley Dow and Samantha Roberts each won twice.
Marshall won the dual by a score of 175-121.
Dow won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.02 and took first in the 200-yard event with a time of 2:10.38.
Roberts pulled out a win in the 200 breast with a time of 2:23.88. In the event, Roberts beat Marshall's Kacey Preun who had not lost in seven previous 200 swims in her career.
Casey Hill's score of 248.70 in the three-meter event was good enough for a win while Rebecca Stafford took first place in the one-meter with a mark of 275.47 in her collegiate debut.
Carly Dean posted a career-best time of 1:03.29 in the 100-yard butterfly. Megan Ciampa was second in the 200-yard backstroke clocking a time of 2:14.09. In the 50-yard freestyle, freshman Jana Janson posted a time of 25.56 seconds, Soyriah Davis had a time of 25.65 and Therese Stevens finished at 25.84 seconds.
Ciampa set a career-best time by two seconds in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:45.69 to finish third. Elli Stevens set a career-best time by 30 seconds finishing with a 11:30.40 in the 1,000 free.
Janson was second in the 100 free with a time of 55.69, Laura Paz was second in the 100-yard fly with a time of 59.98 seconds. Roberts was also second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:16.48 and second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:09.02.
The Penguins return to action on Friday, Nov. 2 when they play host to Niagara. The meet is set for 5 p.m. at the Beeghly Center Natatorium. The divers are in action on Sunday at the Clarion Invitational.
