
YSU Has Solid Final Round at 2012 MAC Preview

Nashport, Ohio - The Youngstown State women's golf team had an impressive second-round performance on the final day of competition at the 2012 MAC Preview hosted by Ohio at the Longaberger Golf Club.
The Penguins carded a solid 308 on Tuesday, which was the fourth-lowest round for the tournament. YSU shot a team score of 347 on Monday in extremely windy conditions to finish with a two-round score of 655. The Penguins placed 12th finishing ahead of Chicago State, Dayton and Detroit and were just three shots back of the host Bobcats. Ball State won the event with a 621 by three strokes over Bowling Green.
YSU had three golfers shot 76 on Tuesday while Sarah Heimlich carded an
Aislynn Merling finished tied for 32nd and made a nine-stroke improvement from round one to round two. Merling carded a two-round score of 161 with scores of 85 and 76. Allison Mitzel improved by 10 strokes after an 86 on Monday to 76 on Tuesday. She tied for 37th with a 162.
Heimlich tied for 57th place and had a six-shot improvement between rounds. She had an 86 and an 80 to finish with a 166. Freshman Emily Rohanna rebounded from a first round 91 to fire a 76 on Tuesday. For the event she tied for 63rd place with a 167. Angela Molaskey rounded out the group of YSU participants with a 178, which placed her 82nd.
YSU concludes the fall season at the Dayton Invitational on Oct. 22-23.
