Guins Cruise Past Valpo to Even Horizon League Record

Boardman -- The Youngstown State women's tennis team evened its Horizon League record at 2-2 with an impressive 7-0 win over Valparaiso on Sunday morning at the Boardman Tennis Center.
YSU earned the doubles point by winning all three matches. At No. 1, Margarita Sadovnikova and Karolina Sjokvist defeated Jackie O'Reilly and Stephanie York 8-1. At No. 2, Hannah Patten and Gimena Puppo earned an 8-6 win over Katie Bilyeu and Kristin Zakiewicz while at No. 3, Annie and Carolyn Jesko beat Aubree Zdiavec and Brittany O'Riley 8-3.
In singles play, YSU won all six matches in straight sets. Sadovnikova beat Jackie O'Reilly 6-1 and 6-3 at No. 1, Carolyn Jesko defeated Brittany O'Reilly 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2, Puppo beat Bilyeu 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3, Sjokvist beat York 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4, Patten knocked off Zakiewicz 7-5, 6-1 at No. 5 and Annie Jesko beat Zdiavec 6-1, 6-4 at No. 6.
The Penguins improve to 5-8 on the season while the Crusaders are now 0-12 overall and 0-5 in HL action.
YSU returns to action on April 9 when it travels to Butler.
