Samantha Formeck Finishes Second at HL Championships; YSU Fifth

Howie-In-The-Hills, Fla. -- Junior Samantha Formeck finished second and Sarah Heimlich tied for seventh as the Youngstown State women's golf team concluded play at the Horizon League Championships on Sunday at the Mission Inn Resort. In the team race, the Penguins placed fifth.
Formeck finished with a three-round total of 235 following a final round of 78 on Sunday. She had a 74 on Friday and an 83 on Saturday. Butler's Michele Nash took home medalist honors by two strokes finishing with a 233. In her career, Formeck also placed first (2009) and third (2010) in the individual standings.
The Bulldogs won the event with a team score of 975, taking the crown by eight shots over Detroit. YSU had rounds of 346, 332 and 333 to total 1,011.
Heimlich had an impressive showing at the league meet. She had three birdies on Sunday to complete a round of 79 and fire a 244 for the tournament.
Senior Katie Rogner finished 16th in her final collegiate competition. Rogner had rounds of 87, 83 and 83 to compile a three-round total of 253.
Freshman Angela Molaskey was 32nd with a 281 while freshman Sarah Scheidemantel was 35th.
