
Penguins Make Push; Michael Lower Places Fourth at HL Championships

Howie-In-The-Hills, Fla. -- A strong final round by the Youngstown State men's golf team gave them a third-place finish at the 2011 Horizon League Championships which concluded on Sunday at the Mission Inn Resort. Junior Michael Lower finished fourth overall with a three-round score of 229 to lead the Penguins.
On Sunday, YSU had a team score of 302 and moved up four spots from seventh place after the first two rounds. Cleveland State won the team title with a 925, while Wright State was second with a 932. WSU and YSU had the two best final rounds of the event. The Raiders carded a 301 on Sunday while the Guins finished with a 302.
The Penguins had four players card rounds of 77 or lower on Sunday to make move up the team leaderboard.
Lower was steady throughout the tournament with rounds of 78 (Friday), 75 (Saturday) and 76 (Sunday). On Sunday, he had three birides, five bogeys and a double bogey to finish at four-over par.
Spenser Sulzener had a one-over par 73 in his final collegiate round. He picked up birdies on No. 3 and No. 14 during the day and finished with a three-round total of 236 placing 16th.
Joe Santisi had birdies on one and 10 en route to a tournament-best 77 in his final round. Santisi had a three-round total of 243 good for a 33rd place finish.
Anthony Conn fired a 74 on Sunday and finished with a three-round total of 235 and finish 13th. Conn's round featured an eagle on the par-5 14th hole along with birdies on eight and 11.
Freshman Mark Olbrych had the high round of the day at 81, but finished in 23rd place with a 240.
