Penguins Battle But Drop 4-3 Decision to UIC on Saturday Night

Boardman -- The Youngstown State men's tennis team picked up three singles wins and battled hard in doubles action but dropped a 4-3 decision to UIC on Saturday night at the Boardman Tennis Center.
YSU won singles matches at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6, but lost the doubles point and dropped straight set matches at one, two and three singles.
At No. 4, freshman Zeeshan Ismail came from behind to beat the Flames' Alan Reifer 6-7, 6-3, 10-3. At No. 5, freshman Rodrigo Campos also came from beind to defeat UIC's Camilo Giraldo 4-6, 7-6, 10-4. At No. 6, Rob Emig knocked off the Flames' Dave Robare 6-2, 6-4.
The Flames won in straight sets at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles. In doubles play, YSU dropped a 9-7 match at No. 1, but dropped an 8-3 match at No. 2 and a 8-2 match at No. 3.
Head Coach Mark Klysner said the Penguins' program is moving in the right direction.
"I am very pleased with the way the guys are fighting in every match we play," Klysner said. "We've definitely had our chances to win a lot of matches which is all you can ask from a very young team. I know the guys are maybe a little frustrated with some of the scores knowing that we are that close from being around the top of the conference. Once again I think our doubles let us down and could have been the decider tonight. Tomorrow we have Valpo and I know my guys are going to be hungry to get a conference win and at least set us up with a chance to make the conference tournament."
The Penguins play host to Valparaiso on Sunday morning at 8 o'clock at the Boardman Tennis Center.
