Penguins Place Third at Bowling Green Invitational

Bowling Green, Ohio -- The Youngstown State women's golf team finished third at the Bowling Green Invitational which was shortened to 18 holes after Sunday's play was called off due to high winds making the Stone Ridge Golf Course unplayable.
YSU senior Katie Rogner was poised to make a move on the field after carding the second-best round on Saturday. Rogner had a 76 and trailed Western Michigan's Britney Hamilton by two shots. However, with round two not being played she will place second. Each golfer shot 38 on the front nine, while Hamilton's 36 on the back nine proved to be the difference.
As a team, the Penguins had a solid opening round with a 331. WMU won the team title with a 316 while Akron was second one stroke back.
Junior Samantha Formeck tied for 11th after firing an opening round 82. Sarah Heimlich carded an 85, Angela Molaskey had an 88 and Sarah Scheidemantel was also part of the lineup.
The Penguins set their sites toward the Horizon League Championships which will be played at Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla., beginning on Friday, April 22.
