Penguins Show Toughness in Hard-Fought Losses Over Weekend

The Youngstown State men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Wright State on Sunday and lost 6-1 to Butler on Saturday. Of the 10 singles matches that were played in the two duals, YSU took six to three sets.
Against Wright State on Sunday, YSU dropped both doubles matches in tiebreakers, 9-8 (5) to fall behind 1-0.
In singles action, freshman Zeehan Ismail defeated the Raiders' Landon Neuman 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 for the lone YSU point at No. 4. Also going three sets were Rodrigo Campos at No. 5 and Tariq Ismail at No. 1. Ismail lost 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (9-7) to WSU's Jan Alafriz while Campos suffered a 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 setback to Michal Lyzwa.
Against Butler on Saturday, Campos won in straight sets 6-0, 6-3 over the Bulldogs' Brad DiCarlo at No. 5 singles. The Guins dropped three-set matches at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4.
At No. 1, Ismail lost 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 to Brandon Bayliss; at No. 3 Max Schmerin dropped a 7-6, 6-7, 10-7 match to Zach Ervin while at No. 4, Zeesan Ismail lost 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 to BU's Lenz Theodor.
YSU returns to action on Sunday, April 17, when it plays host to Detroit.
