Penguins Win 14 of 16 Events in Strong Performance at Niagara

Niagara University, N.Y. -- The Youngstown State swimming and diving team won 14 of 16 events in defeating Niagara 199-101 on Friday at the Oxy Center. Five Penguins won two events and YSU won both relays against the Purple Eagles.
Winning two events each were Samantha Roberts, Megan Ciampa, Laura Paz, Ashley Dow and diver Casey Hill. Nishani Cicilson and Kirstin Walker each won one event. The Penguins opened the meet winning the 200-yard medley relay and closed with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
In the three-meter Hill's mark qualified her for the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships for the third consecutive year. The Zone meet is held in March.
Dow captured first in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.81), and 200-yard backstroke (2:11.82).
Roberts earned first-place finishes in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.26) and 200 breaststroke (2:31.16).
Hill kept her 2011-12 winning streak alive, diving her way to victories in the one-meter (253.35) and three-meter dives (288.37). Hill has won all six of the events she has competed in so far this year.
Ciampa produced first-place marks in the 1,000-yard free with a time of 10:49.98 and in the 500 free she clocked 5:19.76. She also finished third in the 200-yard IM.
Paz won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 59.86 seconds and took first in the 200 fly with a time of 2:13.79.
Cicilson clocked a winning time of 25.14 seconds in the 50 free while Walker finished first in the 100-yard free with a time 54.52 seconds.
In the 200-yard medley relay, Dow, Roberts, Paz and Cicilson posted winning time of 1:52.06 while in the 200 free relay, Cicilson, Audria Grubbs, Soyriah Davis and Walker won with a time of 1:41.28.
The Guins return to Beeghly Center Natatorium next on Saturday Nov. 5 at 2 p.m. against Marshall.
