Rogner Earns Crown, Penguins Slip to Second at YSU Invite

Columbiana -- Youngstown State senior golfer Katie Rogner took medalist honors, but the Penguins could not maintain their first round on the final day of action at the YSU Invitational at The Links at Firestone Farms in Columbiana.
Rogner finished with a two-round 151 with a second-round score of 81. She was one fire the first round carding a two-under-par 70. She held on for a three-shot win over Dayton's Clara Ang who had a 154.
YSU junior Samantha Formeck finished third with a two-round 155. Formeck carded a 79 on Tuesday after opening with a 76 on Monday.
In the team competition, Bethel shot an impressive 311 to overcome the Guins's 10-stroke lead following the first round to win the team title with a 637. YSU finished second with a 639 after carding a 323 on Tuesday. Dayton was third with a 655.
Sophomore Sarah Heimlich finished tied for 13th with a 166 (84-82), freshman Angela Molaskey finished 16th with a 167 (86-81) while freshman Jessica Parnham was 40th. Freshman Amanda Marchetti finished 18th as an individual with a two-round 168 (84-84).
The Penguins return to action on Sept. 27 at the Ball State Invitational.
