
Freshmen Garner Top Five Performances on Final Day of Action

Chicago, Ill. -- Youngstown State freshmen Sam Roberts picked up a fifth-place finish for the Penguins swimming and diving squad on the final day of competition at the 2010 Horizon League Championships at the UIC Natatorium. Freshman diver Casey Hill ended the meet strong placing fourth in the three-meter dive on Saturday.
In the team competition, YSU placed sixth with a score of 259.5. Green Bay won with an impressive score of 804, outdistancing Milwaukee by 89 points.
Roberts, who placed sixth in the 100 breast on Friday, smashed the school record in the 200 breast on Saturday and finished fifth with a time of 2:21.16. Her time bested the school mark by four-and-a-half seconds.
Hill finished fourth in the three-meter dive with a score of 252.85 points. She was less than one point out of first place. Hill also finished fourth in the one-meter earlier in the event.
Freshman Rachel Harbarger was the Guins' top finisher in the 1,650 freestyle. Harbarger swam a career-best time of 18:13.49 on Saturday morning. Harbarger improved her time by nearly 30 seconds from the regular season.
Freshman Amanda Ritzenthaler had an impressive effort in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:11.61 which landed her in ninth place. Junior Caitlin Cook placed 12th in the event with a time of 2:13.61.
Sophomore Nishani Ciclison placed 12th in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.55 seconds. Fellow sophomore Kirstin Walker was 14th in the event with a time of 53.70 seconds.
Cook was the Guins' best finisher in the 200-yard butterfly placing 12th with a time of 2:10.89.
In the final event of the meet, YSU was sixth in the 400-yard freestyle with a time of 3:37.18.
