
Radford Invitational Day One Update; Roberts Earns Win

Radford, Va. -- The Youngstown State swimming and diving team is in action at the eight-team Radford Highlander Invitational this Thursday through Saturday.
The event which features schools from Campbell, Georgia Southern, Liberty, Millersville, Mount St. Mary's, North Carolina A&T, Radford and Youngstown State will feature preliminary rounds - Thursday and Friday- and conclude with 6 p.m. finals on the first two days.
Swimmers will hit the water at 9 a.m. Saturday with the finals scheduled for 3 p.m.
In Thursday's finals, YSU sophomore Sam Roberts won the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:11.89 beating Radford's Emily Turner by almost a half second.
The Guins were second in the 400-yard medley relay finishing three seconds behind Georgia Southern. YSU's group of Angela Diorio, Roberts, Laura Paz and Nishani Cicilson had a time of 4:03.82. YSU placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:40.66 by Cicilson, Kirstin Walker, Audy Grubbs and Alana Kane.
In the 500 free, Walker placed fifth with a time of 5:19.24, while freshman Brittany Vigar was seventh at 5:22.78 and Megan Ciampa was eighth at 5:24.89.
Cicilson was sixth in the 50 free with a time of 24.80.
In the morning's preliminaries, YSU had three of the top eight in the 500 freestyle led by Walker's time of 5:18.60. Ciampa was right behind in sixth at 5:19.72 while Vigar was in eighth at 5:22.78.
In the 200 IM, Roberts had the third-fastest preliminary time at 2:14.54 while Rachel Harbarger and Diorio were both in the top 16.
In the 50 free, Ciclison qualified in eighth position with a time of 25.16 seconds while Walker was 10th at 25.45.
