
Yegon Joins Hamilton in YSU Top Ten History at BGSU Invitational

Freshman Eric Rupe led the way for the men's cross country team Saturday while the women finished an impressive seventh out of 17 teams at the Bowling Green State University Falcon Invitational. Both teams had runners with personal-best times and significant improvements from last year's invitational.
Men's Recap
Finishing ninth out of 16 teams, there was only a 47-second gap
between the first and fifth Penguin runners, which continued their
competitive pack running for another meet. The Guins, with 238
points, beat Wright State by 25 points.
In his first race finishing as the Penguins' number one runner,
Rupe completed the 8k in just under 26 minutes with a personal-best
time of 25:55. He is the first Penguin runner to complete that feat
this season. Seniors Jim Ramson and
Joe
Copploe placed 47th and 54th by running times of 26:15.3 and
26:26.4, respectively. Ramson had a 10 second improvement from last
year, while Copploe improved by 25 seconds. Jake Lape
finished 62nd with a time of 26:39.2, and Scott Denham
rounded out the top five just three seconds behind Lape. Denham,
with a time of 26:42.3, improved from last year's meet by 62
seconds.

Women's Recap
On their way to a seventh place finish, each of the runners on the
women's cross country squad completed the 6k race with a
personal-best time. There were four runners under 23:10, whereas
last year at this time, the team only had two runners under the
same mark. The team also beat Horizon League foes Cleveland State
by 48 points and Wright State by 67 points.
Samantha Hamilton finished sixth out of 177 competitors to lead
the Guins. Running a personal-best time of 22:13.2 and improving by
2:15, she also moved to third on YSU's All Time History for the 6k.
Hamilton was followed by Nelly Yegon, who improved her time from
last year's invitational by nearly two and a half minutes. With a
time of 22:56.1, Yegon moves into the Top Ten on YSU's All Time
History for the 6k. Anna Pompeo and Katherine Digby ran
personal-bests to finish together at 23:10.0, and Rachel Huddle
finished fifth for the Penguins with a personal-best time of
24:03.2.

The results from the Falcon Invitational cap off tremendous
improvement over the past four weeks for runners on both squads.
The teams will have two weeks of training before entering the
championship phase of the season with the Horizon League
Championships in Chicago, Il. on October 30.
