When Vicki Lawrence takes her place in the Athletics Hall of Fame this year, she becomes only the third woman to be inducted but one of the most versatile athletes to ever perform at Youngstown State University. Form 1977 to 1981, she was a part of two very success programs at YSU, helping to lead the Lady Penguin hoopsters to 60-21 overall slate and the softball program to a 38-11 mark and three OAISW (Ohio Association of Intercollegiate Sports for Women) state championships (in 1978 and 1979, the Lady Penguins won the Slow-Pitch crown while in 1980, they were Fast-Pitch champions in the very first season of Fast-Pitch competition). For her Fast Pitch exploits at the fast pitch tournament in 1980, she was named the state "Most Valuable Player". She is one of just seven 1000 point scorers in Lady Penguin basketball history (she ranks seventh with 1,069 career points), ranking in the top fifteen in seven categories while as a softball pitcher, she is listed in the top five in four pitching categories, still tops with nine victories in a single season. Her exploits in both sports are recalled by many and she will go down in Lady Penguin athletics history as one of the best to perform in both sports. She is currently an elementary physical education teacher at Lakeview Local School. Vicki is single and lives in Cortland, Ohio.
