A native of Campbell, Ohio, the Durina family has sent two football players to the college ranks at Youngstown State University; the first being father Mike, who graced the Penguin gridiron from 1946-1949; the second to play for the Penguins was son Pat, who was a defensive back from 1976 to 1980. A quarterback/ punter under legendary coach Dwight "Dike" Beede, Durina was a hard-nosed player that knocked you down then helped you up. Described by many as one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever suit up for the Penguins. One of the many two-way performers of his day, he missed very little time playing during the course of a game. He helped lead the Penguins to a combined record of 23-9 during his four seasons at Youngstown State.
