    YSU golfer Matt Kempe was a fixture at the top of the lineup during his YSU career and he is the only men’s golfer in school history to finish in the top 10 at the conference meet three times in a career.
    In his career, Kempe was third (2001), eighth (2000) and ninth (1999) at the Mid-Continent Conference Championships while golfing for the Penguins. He played in 37 tournaments in his three years and played a total of 102 rounds while averaging 74.9 strokes per round. Following his three years at YSU he left school to pursue a career in professional golf.
    In 2000-01, he played in 12 tournaments and 33 rounds while posting a per-round average of 74.3. He had six top-10 finishes and had 10 top-20 performances. His best finish was second at the Ohio Collegiate Classic with a three-round total of 211. At the conference championships, Kempe carded scores of 77, 74 and 78 for a total of 229. He had three rounds of 69 on the campaign.
    He was fourth at the Cleveland State Invitational, fifth at the Butler Invitational, sixth at the Johnny Owens Invitational and eighth at the Detroit Titans Invitational during the year.
    In 1999-2000, he played in 13 tournaments and 34 rounds while averaging 74.2 strokes per round. He had nine top-10 finishers at various tournaments during the year with a best finish of second at the Penn State Rutherford Intercollegiate. He tied for eighth at the Mid-Con Championships with a three-round total of 222 following rounds of 73, 73 and 76. He was also third at the Ohio Collegiate and the Ball State Invitational. He placed fourth at the CSU Invitational and was fifth at the Wright State Invite and the Eastern Kentucky Tournament.
    In 1998-99, Kempe competed in 12 tournaments and 35 rounds while posting an average of 76.3 strokes per round. He tied for ninth at the Mid-Con championships with a 227 following rounds of 81, 75, 71. Highlighting his season was a win at the Eastern Kentucky tournament with a 216 helping lead YSU to the team title. He also tied for medalist honors at Cleveland State with a 225.
    At Cardinal Mooney High School, Kempe was a four-year letterwinner and three-time all-Steel Valley Conference selection. He was a two-time state qualifier and earned all-state honors as both a junior and a senior. As a senior he was the Steel Valley Conference tournament medalist.
    He works as a Director of Sales at VacationMyrtleBeach.com and Ocean Creek Resort. He spent 13 years playing professional golf all throughout the United States.
    His wife, Michelle Meadows, was an All-America golfer in college at Methodist University and twice led the Monarchs to a National Championship. She is an LPGA Professional and is employed by National Golf Management in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
