Drs. Michael and Dianne Miladore, who were named the 2011 Penguins of the Year, have played a vital part in the success of the Youngstown State Athletic Department and its student-athletes.
The Miladores have made contributions to Youngstown State and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics in numerous ways. The Miladore Family Penguin Club Loge in Stambaugh Stadium offers football fans a beautiful place to watch both Penguins football and high school games. They have endowed the Drs. Dianne B. & Michael J. Miladore Scholarship, which alternates between a male and female student-athlete who is interested in majoring in pre-medical studies.
Michael worked as a team physician for the Department of Athletics from 1989 through 2011. Working closely with the football program as team orthopedist, he was part of six teams that reached the FCS Championship Game, including the four title-winning years. His sole purpose working with the YSU Athletic Training staff was the health and well-being of all YSU student-athletes. He took great pride in seeing the athletes compete at their highest level and obtain their academic degrees. He felt privileged meeting and establishing long-lasting relationships with many families of the athletes, staff and faculty at YSU.
Dianne served on the Penguin Club Board of Trustees from 1992-97 and was the organization’s president in 1996-97. She was appointed to be a member of the Youngstown State University Board of Trustees where she served from 2005-09. She was the chair of the Academic and Student Affairs Committees of the Board. Dianne served as a member of the university’s 2011-20 Strategic Plan as well as the YSU Board of Trustees Housing Corporation. From 2008-15, she was a trustee at the Northeast Ohio Medical University.
The Miladores are both lifetime members of the YSU Alumni Association and have been active members of the Penguin Club. Michael is a member of the YSU Penguin Club Board of Trustees.
Both have been elected to the Youngstown State University chapter of The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. In addition, Dianne is a member of The Gould Society and The Golden Key International Honor Society while Michael is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical organization at NEOMED.
Most importantly, Dianne and Michael have mentored hundreds of Youngstown State students in their pursuit of a career in medicine and other health-related fields for more than 30 years.
Dianne worked as an emergency medicine physician at The Medical College of Ohio at Toledo, St. Elizabeth Medical Center and Beeghly Medical Center’s Urgent Care Center. She is an instructor in Emergency Medicine and is a clinical advisor for medical students at the College. She is a trustee for the Mill Creek Children Center’s St. Jerome’s School Board.
Dr. Bitonte Miladore received her B.S. degree Summa Cum Laude from Youngstown State University and her M.D. as a member of the Charter Class of the NEOMED in 1981. She completed residencies in emergency medicine at Akron General Medical Center and St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo.
A retired and board certified Orthopedic Surgeon, Michael was a staff member at Northside Medical Center, the Surgical Hospital of Southwoods and the Humility of Mary-St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Dr. Miladore is currently on the Board of Directors at Northside Medical Center and foundation trustee with the Western Reserve Health Foundation. More recently, he was appointed to the Mahoning County District Board of Health. He is also involved in a teaching capacity as an Associate Professor of Clinical Orthopedic Surgery at NEOMED.
Previously, he was on the Board of Directors at Forum Health and Southwoods Hospital, served as the President of Medical Staff at Forum Health Northside Medical Center and participated on the Joint Advisory Committee on Sports Medicine for the Ohio State Medical Association. He was on the Board of Trustees of NEOMED from 1992-2001 where he was the chairman from 1998-2000 and served as the vice chairman for a two-year term.
Dr. Miladore received his B.S. degree from Youngstown State and an M.D. degree from the NEOMED. He completed an orthopedic residency at The Medical College of Ohio at Toledo. He was also the Chief Resident for the Medical College of Ohio and Associated Hospitals.
Michael has been awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award for both NEOMED and YSU and is a recipient of the Distinguished Clinical Faculty Award for Orthopedic Surgery at NEOMED.
They have three successful sons, Dr. Michael P. Miladore (wife, Cherri), Dr. Nicholas Miladore (wife, Dr. Julia) and Dr. Joseph Miladore, who are all Youngstown State University and NEOMED graduates.
