Becky MacFadyen was a key contributor in helping the Youngstown State swimming and diving program to their best finishes in Division II history.

In each of her four years, the Farmersville, Ohio, native qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships in multiple events. As a school, YSU placed in the top 20 nationally four times.

Her name is still a major part of the Penguin record books. She holds the mark in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:10.69, which was established on Feb. 15, 1986. She ranks second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.92 seconds which was set on Feb. 10, 1984. She also ranks fourth in the 200-yard IM. MacFadyen is still part of the 200, 400 and 800 freestyle-relay record-holding tandems.

As a senior in 1985-86, she qualified for the 100-yard and 200-yard butterfly at the NCAA Division II Championships in Orlando, Fla. In the relay events she was part of Penguin teams that placed seventh in the 400-yard freestyle relay and eighth in the 800-yard freestyle relay. YSU placed 15th at the event scoring 85.5 points.

Leading up to the championship meet she placed second in the 100-yard butterfly and fifth in the 100-yard backstroke at the Penn-Ohio Championships.

As a junior in 1984-85, she was 19th in the 100-yard fly and 21st in the 200 fly at the Division II Championships in Orlando. In the relays, YSU was ninth in the 200 free, 11th in the 400 free and 15th in the 800 freestyle relays. The team placed 20th scoring a total of 58 points.

At the Penn-Ohio’s she was second in the 100 fly and third in the 200 individual medley and 100-yard backstroke.

During her sophomore year in 1983-84, she competed in the 100-yard and 200-yard butterfly and three relays at the NCAA Championships in Long Island, N.Y. She was on the 400-yard freestyle relay squad that placed fifth and the 200-medley relay team that was 12th. YSU placed 11th out of 31 teams by scoring 81 points.

As a freshman in 1982-83, she qualified in five individual events for the NCAA Championships in Long Beach, Calif. She competed in the 50 and 100-yard butterfly’s , the 100-yard freestyle and the 100 and 200-yard individual medley’s. Her best individual finish was ninth in the 50-yard butterfly.

In the relays, she earned All-America honors as YSU placed 10th in both the 200-yard freestyle and the 200-yard medley pursuits. YSU placed 14th out of 35 schools scoring 63 points.

She earned her Art Education degree from YSU upon the completion of her swimming career.

A two-time state qualifier at Valley View High School in Germantown, Ohio, she competed in the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard freestyle.

She is currently an Intermediate School Art Teacher for Brookville Local Schools.

Becky Dunn and her husband Mike have been married for more than 18 years. They have two sons, Brannon and Cameron.
