Ann Marie Martin finished in the top 10 in women’s basketball history in points scored and rebounds. Martin still ranks fourth in school history in scoring (1,631) and is eighth in rebounding (711).

Martin was the most prolific free-throw shooter in school history until this past year. She made an impressive 82.1 percent of her attempts (303-of-369) and is now second behind Lauren Branson. She was just as solid from the field ranking second in school history at 53 percent (637-of-1,202).

She averaged 13.9 points and 6.1 rebounds in 117 career games, making 104 starts. Martin also finished with 175 assists, 146 steals and 72 blocks shots.

As a senior in 1997-98, Martin scored a team-high 506 points as the program posted a 28-3 overall mark and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

She averaged 13.3 points and 5.9 rebounds for the year. From the line she made 107-of-118 attempts (90.7 percent) and shot 52.8 percent from the field. Martin ranked second in the nation in field-goal percentage in 1997-98. She had 59 assists, 42 steals and blocked 32 shots. For her all-around efforts she was a first-team all-conference pick. During the year she scored in double figures 28 times and, on two occasions, scored 35 points (at Southern Utah and against Chicago State).

As a junior, Martin was a second-team all-conference selection. She scored 449 points (15.5 per game), grabbed 169 rebounds (5.8), had 44 assists, 43 steals and 13 blocks.

From the free-throw line she was 75-of-96 (78.1 percent) while she made 178-of-343 from the field (51.9 percent). She scored in double figures 25 times and had three double-doubles. She scored a season-high 29 points against Troy State.

As a sophomore, Martin scored 352 points (12.1 points per game) and grabbed 165 rebounds (5.7). She made 66-of-89 free-throw attempts (74.2 percent) and was 139-of-258 from the field. She had 33 steals, 32 assists and 25 blocks while scoring in double figures 20 times with four double-doubles. She scored a season-high 26 points against Bowing Green.

Martin played in 28 games as a freshman, starting 22 times. She scored 323 points (11.5) and grabbed 194 rebounds (6.9) for the year. She finished with 40 assists, 28 steals and 12 blocks. Martin had 15 double-figure scoring games and six double-doubles. She had a high of 26 points against UMKC.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in Education/Secondary Science from YSU before earning her Master’s in Curriculum Instruction from Ashland.

A native of Parma, Ohio, Martin graduated from Valley Forge High School where she was a first-team all-district selection.

Ann Marie lives in Youngstown. She is a Comprehensive Science Teacher at Austintown Fitch High School and is a volleyball, basketball and track and field official.
