Penguins Earn Runner-Up Finish at YSU Spring Invitational

Warren, Ohio -- The Youngstown State women's golf team earned a runner-up finish in the YSU Spring Invitational, which concluded on Monday at Avalon Lakes Golf Course.

The Penguins concluded the event with a two-round team total of 613 to finish 11 strokes behind Akron, who claimed the tournament title with a 602. YSU recorded a 302 in the opening round on Sunday to carry a four-shot lead into the final session. The Zips posted a final-round 296 on Monday to charge back for the tournament victory. The Guins finished the event with a 311 in the final round.

Neeranuch Prajunpanich finished tied for third to lead four Penguins in the top 10 of the individual standings. The freshman fired a final-round 76 on Monday to close the tournament with a two-round 151 (75-76) and earn her sixth top-10 finish of the season. Prajunpanich carded 12 pars and a birdie on the par-four No. 18 during the final round of action.

Lizzie Saur placed sixth with a two-round score of 153 (75-78) to collect her seventh top-10 finish of the campaign. The junior's final-round 78 featured 10 pars and a birdie on the par-four No. 18. Titita Loudtragulngam finished seventh with a two-round total of 154 (75-79) to pick up her third top-10 finish of the season.

Danae Rugola recorded her second top-10 finish of 2023-24 as she tied for ninth with a two-round 156 (77-79). The fifth-year senior's second-round 79 included 11 pars and a birdie on the par-four No. 15.

Adena Rugola finished tied for 12th with a two-round score of 159 (77-82). Chaela Barnett finished tied for 14th with a two-round total of 160 (82-78). Barnett's final-round 78 featured 10 pars and birdies at No. 5 and No. 7.

Bucknell finished one stroke behind YSU in third place with a 614 while LaSalle placed fourth with a 659. Saint Francis finished fifth with a 661 while Mercyhurst placed sixth with a 673.

Akron's Hridhika Vora took home medalist honors by two strokes at even par with a two-round 144 after carding a four-under-par 68 in Monday's final round.

Youngstown State will now turn its focus to the 2024 Horizon League Championships, which will take place April 20-22 at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla.
