On behalf of the Youngstown State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and the YSU Penguin Club, we would like to once again ask for your support during our Fourth annual YSU World Penguin Day campaign on April 25.
Last year, Penguin Pride was on full display with the funds raised to assist our student-athletes and programs. This year, much like the first track on the Beatles' Abbey Road album, here at 1 Tressel Way, we are asking Penguin Nation to "Come Together" and support our Penguins.
According to the Penguin Foundation website, "World Penguin Day is celebrated each year on April 25. This day of recognition aims to raise awareness about these flightless birds, to preserve their species and habitat so that future generations are able to see these remarkable animals". In conjunction, Youngstown State Athletics has created YSU World Penguin Day to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of our "remarkable" Penguins and ask that you continue to support them in their quest for success.
Over the last year, our Penguins have achieved outstanding accomplishments:
- 2024 Men's Indoor Track & Field champions
- 2024 Women's Tennis Regular-Season Champions
- 2023 Men's Cross County champions
- 2023 Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field champions
- The average cumulative GPA for our 500 student-athletes was 3.486 and all our teams earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher in the Fall of 2023
- 432 student-athletes earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (85%)
We preach to our teams that greatness comes from the "team" all pulling in the same direction. We understand that the success of our teams and student-athletes, both in the classroom and during competition, depends on every Penguin. No one person can do it alone, so we are asking that the community, campus, alumni, family and friends "Come Together" to support the Penguins and take YSU to new heights!
