Khuanrudee Ties For Second; Guins Finish Fifth at HL Championships

The Youngstown State women's golf team put together an impressive final round to finish fifth at the Horizon League Championships which concluded on Tuesday at Mission Inn Resort's Las Colinas course in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla.

On Tuesday, YSU carded a final-round 302 to tally a three-day total of 933. The 302 was the Penguins' best round by 11 shots. YSU improved everyday following a 318 in round one and a 313 in round two. Oakland won the league title with a 915 while Green Bay was second, Cleveland State came in third and IUPUI was fourth just four shots ahead of the Guins.

Puthita Khuanrudee led the way tying for second place with Green Bay's Isabelle Maleki following a three-round total of 227 (74-79-74). It's the second straight top-three finish at the HL Championship for Khuanrudee who was third last year in Indiana.

Joining Khuanrudee in the top 10 was Danae Rugola who made the biggest move of the round following a one-over-par 73. Rugola, who was 24th at the HL event last year, was in 25th place following the second round and climbed 15 spots with her total of 232. Oakland's Amalia Shahzan won the tournament with an impressive three-round total of 212.

Khuanrudee concluded her final round by shooting a one-over-par 74. Her final round featured 13 pars, three bogeys and a pair of birdies. On the front nine she was two-over par, before birdies at No. 12 and No. 15 brought her back to even.

Rugola made an impressive final day charge thanks to an even-par round of 73. She posted a three-round total of 232 following rounds of 81 and 78 previously. In her final round, she made seven pars and two bogeys on the front nine for a 37. She closed by making seven pars and birdies at No. 13 and No. 16 for a back-side two-under-par 36. 

Christina Lewis finished with a three-round total of 237 after carding a final-round 81. Lewis had previous scores of 80 and 76 at the Championships. Her last round featured 11 pars and a birdie at the par-5 14th hole. She opened her round with six pars on seven holes. 

Madie Smithco finished with a three-round total of 240 after carding a final-round 77. The 77 was her best round of the event after carding scores of 83 and 80 earlier in the tournament. On her final round, she opened with birdies at No. 2 and No. 4 and even par after the first 11 holes. She had 10 pars on her last round. 

Lizzie Saur finished with a three-round total of 243 after firing a 78 on Tuesday. The 78 was her lowest round of the event after carding scores of 83 and 85. For her final round, she had an even-par 38 on the back nine which included birdies at 12 and 14. She had 10 pars on her last round.
