Penguins in Sixth Place After Day Two of Horizon League Championships

The Youngstown State women's golf team is in sixth place following Monday's second round of the Horizon League Championships at Mission Inn Resort's Las Colinas course in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla.

The Penguins posted a team score of 313 on Monday after carding an opening-round 318 on Sunday to hold a two-round total of 631. YSU is two strokes back of fifth-place Detroit Mercy and 11 strokes behind fourth-place IUPUI. Cleveland State is third with a 619 while Green Bay is second with a 618. Oakland holds a 16-stroke lead with a 602 heading into Tuesday's third and final round.

Puthita Khuanrudee is tied for sixth with a two-round total of 153 (74-79). The senior's second-round 79 featured 10 pars and a pair of birdies as she made par or better on seven of her final nine holes. After shooting a five-over-par 40 on the front nine, Khuanrudee bounced back with a one-over-par 39 on the back nine. The senior is 11 strokes back of Oakland's Amalia Shahzan, who leads the tournament by seven shots with a two-round total of 142 (72-70).

Christina Lewis is tied for 17th with a two-round total of 156 (80-76). The junior's three-over-par 76 on Monday included 13 pars and a birdie on the par-five No. 12. Lewis made par or better on each of her final eight holes to finish with an even-par 38 on the back nine.

Danae Rugola is 25th with a two-round total of 159 (81-78). The junior's second-round 78 on Monday featured 11 pars and a birdie on the par-four No. 3 as she made par or better on 12 of her first 15 holes. Rugola carded a one-over-par 36 on the front nine during Monday's second session.

Madie Smithco is tied for 29th with a two-round total of 163 (83-80). The sophomore's second-round 80 on Monday included 11 pars as she made par on six of her first seven holes. Lizzie Saur is tied for 39th with a two-round total of 168 (83-85). The freshman's second-round 85 on Monday featured 12 pars as she made par on 12 of her first 15 holes.

Youngstown State will return to action on Tuesday for the third and final round of the 2022 Horizon League Championships. The Penguins will tee off on No. 1 beginning at 7:30 a.m.
