Danae Rugola shared medalist honors to lead the Youngstown State women's golf team to a seven-stroke victory on Friday in the YSU Spring Invitational at Youngstown Country Club.
The Penguins posted a single-round team score of 317 to finish seven strokes ahead of Cleveland State and earn their first victory of the season. Niagara finished third with a 344 in the one-day, three-team event.
Rugola shared medalist honors with a single-round 78 to lead six Penguins who placed in the top 10. The Uniontown, Pa., native has now earned three top-10 finishes on the campaign. Rugola also finished tied for first place at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational back in September. The junior shared medalist honors with Cleveland State's Madison Butler.
Puthita Khuanrudee and Christina Lewis each fired a 79 to finish tied for third. Lizzie Saur, Victoria Gräns and Ally St. Clair each carded an 81 to finish tied for sixth.
Tori Utrup tied for 12th with an 85 while Madie Smithco tied for 17th with an 88. Britney Jonda placed 19th with an 89 while Jenna Vivo was 20th with a score of 90. Kelly Hutton placed 21st with a round of 97.
The Penguins will now turn their attention toward the Horizon League Championships, which will take place April 24-26 at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla.
