The Youngstown State women's golf team fell to Oakland on Monday to finish in fourth place at the Motor City Cup match play event at Mission Inn Resort's Las Colinas Course in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla.
The second-seeded Penguins dropped a 4-2 decision to the fourth-seeded Golden Grizzlies in the third-place match to finish in fourth with a 1-2 overall record. Christina Lewis (2UP) and Tori Utrup (1UP) each earned individual victories for the Guins. Danae Rugola (3&2), Lizzie Saur (1UP), Victoria Gräns (3&2) and Madie Smithco (3&2) each dropped their individual head-to-head matches during Monday's final session.
Lewis and Saur each finished the event with a 2-1 record in individual matches while Gräns and Rugola each finished at 1-1-1. Utrup posted a 1-2 record while Smithco went 0-3.
Top-seeded IUPUI defeated third-seeded Green Bay 4-1-1 in the championship match to finish the event at 3-0 and claim the tournament title. In the consolation bracket, eighth-seeded UIC topped sixth-seeded Purdue Fort Wayne 5-1 in the fifth-place match while fifth-seeded Cleveland State downed seventh-seeded Northern Kentucky 6-0 in the seventh-place match.

YSU advanced to the championship bracket with a 4-2 victory over Northern Kentucky in the opening round on Sunday. The Penguins then fell 3-1-2 to Green Bay in the semifinals to place them in Monday's third-place match against Oakland.
Youngstown State will continue its spring schedule on Feb.28-March 1 with the Rivertowne Invitational hosted by Charleston Southern at Rivertowne Country Club in Mount Pleasant, S.C.
