Cross Country
Squads Place Sixth and Seventh at
League Meet
Green Bay,
Wis.
-- The Youngstown State men's
cross country team finished sixth
and women's placed seventh at the
Horizon League Championships on
Saturday afternoon.
Junior Justin Dickman led the men's squad with a time of
26:10 while finishing 16th. One
spot behind Dickman was sophomore
Jake Lape, who finished 17th with
a time of 26:13.
Sophomore Jim
Ramson finished in 26th after
running a time of 26:45. The fourth
finisher for the Guins was senior JD
Sheppard who finished in 29th,
running a 27:18. Rounding out the
scoring was sophomore Jake
Dialesandro, who took 42nd with a
time of 27:18.
Other
finishers for the men were freshman
Rick Lape and sophomore Joe Copploe,
who
took 48th and 49th with a time of 27:25.
The men used a strong 45 second-gap
through the top four spots and a
minute through the top five for the
sixth place finish. Butler
was the top team on the men's side,
followed by Loyola in second, and
Milwaukee in third
On the women's
side, junior Lauren Blase led the
Penguins with a 15th place finish,
20 spots better than last year
after a time of 19:10. Sophomore
Kayla Witmer took 22nd, up 30 spots
from a year ago, running a time of
19:24. Freshman Jocelyn Steiner ran
her personal best time of 20:11 and
finished in 36th.
Sophomore Lisa Lee improved her
time last year by 40 seconds and
moved up 15 spots, running a 20:21
to finish in 41st. The final scorer
for the Penguins was junior Dawn
Goodwin, who ran a 20:58 to finish 54th. Other
finishers for the Guins were junior
Jen Roman and senior Amy Moore.
Roman ran a time of 21:28 and
finished in 61st. Moore took 62nd
after a time of 21:28.
Loyola won the women's event for the
first time since 2001, followed by
Milwaukee in second, and Butler
rounded out the top three.
The Penguins will compete at the Great Lakes Regional on Nov.
