Anthony's Victories Underscore Solid Field Performances at Kent State

    Kent, Ohio -- Sophomore Alisha Anthony won the long jump and triple jump and Youngstown State's field athletes made seven new entries to the school's top-10 performers list over the weekend at Kent State.
    Anthony won both events by more than a foot-and-a-half with marks of 17-11 in the long jump and 34-11 in the triple jump. She added a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash.
    Junior Shayne York won the triple jump for the men's squad (44-1 1/2).
    John Pallini moved into fourth-place on YSU's top performers list in the shot put with a mark of 50-10, and Dom DeFilippo assumed the 10th spot by throwing 47-6 1/2. In addition, Johnny Copley's second-place pole vault height of 14-1 1/4 ranks fifth in school history, and Jerrill Hall's fourth-place distance of 21-2 in the long jump ranks eighth.
    All three of YSU's competitors in the women's weight throw turned in personal-best marks. Alexis Hall finished third and now ranks fifth in school history (51-10), Danielle Curry ranks sixth (51-0 1/4) and Marissa Opper is 10th (45-11 1/4).
    Kari Kreutzfeld won the 400m (58.31), and Robyn Ray added a second-place finish in the triple jump (33-4 1/2) for the women's team.
    The men's squad had seven second-place finishes, including Harold Jones' second-place time of 1:54.71 in the 800m that ranks him eighth in school history.
    Other second-place finishes were Clarence Howell in the 60m, Scott Streiner in the 200m, Adam Kagarise in the 400m, Hall in the 60m hurdles, Marty Vieth in the high jump, Copley in the pole vault and York in the long jump.
    The Penguins will have a week off before competing in the two-day Akron Open on Feb. 1 and 2.
