Out-Duels Wright State, 4-3
Youngstown--
The Youngstown State women's tennis
picked it its third win in a row
this season by edging Horizon League
foe Wright State, 4-3, on Saturday
afternoon at the YSU Tennis Courts.
The win helps the Penguins to
improve to 3-3 in league play.
YSU opened up
the match by winning the doubles
point. Anna Volkova and Tanisha
Welch teamed up for the 8-2 win at
No. 1 while Hannah Patten and
Irena Lanc secured the point with
their 8-4 win in the No. 4 spot.
The Guins
entered singles play with the lead
and added to the points with wins at
No. 3, 5 and 6 singles. Emily Thayer
beat Karina Presti, 6-0, 6-2. Kelly
Culbertson downed Kelly Lybrook,
6-0, 6-0 and Hannah Patten won in
the No. 6 spot, 6-4, 6-0. Welch and
Lanc both lost hard-fought matches
in the third sets and Volkova fell
6-2, 6-1 in the No. 1 spot. By
claiming the early doubles point YSU
walked away with the 4-3 victory
The Penguins
will face Detroit on Sunday at Noon
on the road. |
