Women's Tennis Sweeps Valpo in Final Match

    Youngstown-- The Youngstown State women's wrapped up the regular season by defeating Valparaiso, 7-0, at the YSU tennis courts on Monday afternoon. The Penguins won every doubles and singles match to improve to 4-4 in the Horizon League and 7-15 overall.

   The Guins came out strong by winning the doubles point. Anna Volkova and Tanisha won 8-2 in the No. 1 spot. Emily Thayer and Kelly Culbertson easily beat Molly Keifer and Jackie O'Reilly 8-1 while Hannah Patten and Irena Lanc helped to keep the match perfect with their 8-6 victory.

    In singles action, Welch beat Keifer 6-2, 6-0. Thayer picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win over Julie Wingstrom. Michelle Fuleky beat Christine Antobus, 6-1, 6-1. Irena Lanc downed Lanson 6-2, 6-2 and Kelly Culbertson won 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 6 spots. Volkova sealed with sweep with her win over Kim Sajevic by a score of 6-2, 7-6 (4).

    The women will next travel in Indianapolis for the Horizon League Tennis Championship. The Penguins will first face Green Bay on Friday at 1 p.m.
