Women's Tennis
Claims 7th Place in HL Tournament
with 4-2 Win Over Wright State
Indianapolis, Ind.-- The
Youngstown State women's tennis
concluded the spring season by
beating the No. 7 seed Wright State,
4-2, on Saturday afternoon in the
third round of the Horizon league
tournament. YSU finishes seventh in
the league out of nine teams. UIC
and Butler will play for the league
title Sunday at 9:00 a.m.
YSU won the
doubles point by winning 8-6 at No.
1 and 8-3 in the No. 3 spot. Anna
Volkova and Tanisha Welch teamed up
to beat Christa Ames and Kenisha
Webb while Michelle Fuleky and
Hannah Patten downed Monica
Cappozziello and Jackie Garrett.
Welch also won
her singles match in the No. 2 slot
6-2, 6-2. Senior Emily Thayer won
her final match as a Penguin by
defeating Karina Presti 6-0, 4-6 and
7-6 (6) in the third set. Kelly
Culbertson helped add to YSU's
points with her 6-3, 6-0 win at No.
5.
The Raiders
only two points of the match came in
the No. 1 spot as Jessica Lee beat
Volkova 6-3, 6-0 and at No. 4 with Fuleky's retirement.
