Women's Tennis Beats Green Bay, 6-1

    Boardman Ohio-- The Youngstown State women's tennis team downed league opponent Green Bay, 6-1, on Friday night at the Boardman Tennis Center. The Phoenix picked up the early doubles point, but the Penguins swept the singles matches for its first Horizon League win of the season.

   In singles action, Anna Volkova won her eighth match at No. 1 singles for the season by defeating Emily Lawent, 6-3, 6-0. In  the No. 2 spot, Tanisha Welch beat Kelly Stadum, 6-2, 6-0. Senior Emily Thayer extended her match to three sets winning 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 over Lauryn Grimando. In the No. 4 spot Michelle Fuleky won her first match of the season since returning from injury, 2-6, 6-4, 5-3 ret. Irena Lanc stopped Laura Bartingale 6-3, 6-4 and Kelly Culbertson easily beat Kari Petrashek 6-1, 6-0.

    Fuleky and Hannah Patten also won their doubles match 8-3 in the No. 3 spot.

     The women's tennis team will play again at the Boardman Tennis Center on Sunday at 10 am against Milwaukee.
