University Slips by Men's Tennis,
4-3

The Youngstown State men's tennis
team traveled to Florida to face
Wesleyan University on Tuesday
afternoon in the first of two spring
break match-ups. The Penguins picked
up three wins at singles and claimed
one of the doubles matches, but the
Cardinals managed to pull out the
4-3 victory.
YSU started
out strong at doubles as Scott
Kathary and Ryan Trapp beat Matt
Schaff and Matt O'Connell, 8-3, in
the No. 1 spot.
Wesleyan University went on to
win at the No. 2 and 3 spots to pick
up the first point of the match.
In singles
action, Kathary and Trapp also won
their matches. Kathary extended his
match to three sets defeating
O'Connell 6-4,
6-7 (3-7), 11-9 while Trapp beat Pauri Pandian
7-5, 6-2. Sophomore Chris Leson
extended his match to three sets as
well downing Alejandro
Alvarado, 6-7 (3-7), 6-3, 10-6, in
the No. 5 spot. The Cardinals
secured the match win with victories
at No. 3, 4 and 6 singles.
The men's
tennis team will play again on
Thursday against an opponent who is
yet to be named. Match time will
also be announced later. |
