Bridget Wallenberger had 15 kills to lead Milwaukee to a 3-0 win over the Youngstown State volleyball team on Saturday afternoon at the Klotsche Center. The set scores were 25-19, 25-15, 25-23.
Wallenberger was one of three Panthers with at least kills, and UWM had a 51-31 edge over the Penguins in the kills column. Kylie Wilks had 19 digs to go along with her 11 kills, and Jess Kalous added 10 kills.
Lauren Blanco had 18 digs, and Margaux Thompson finished with nine kills and nine digs for YSU. Morgan Tippie was efficient with her 15 attempts with eight kills and just one error for a .467 attack percentage. She added three blocks, and YSU finished with six as a team.
UWM trailed just once in each of the first two sets to win 25-19 and 25-15, but YSU was much more competitive in the third. The Penguins led as late as 19-18 on a Sarah Varcolla kill, and the final tie was at 22-22 on an attack error by Wilks. Tippie's last kill of the night got the Penguins to within 24-23, but Wallenberger finished the match with her 15th kill.
Youngstown State will host Green Bay and UIC next weekend at Beeghly Center. The Penguins will host Parents Night on Friday at 6 p.m. versus the Phoenix, and Senior Day festivities will be held prior to the match against the Flames at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
