Penguins Defeat Northern Kentucky 5-2 To Remain Unbeaten

Boardman - The Youngstown State women's tennis team picked up a 5-2 win over Northern Kentucky on Saturday afternoon at the Boardman Tennis Center.

With the victory, the Penguins improve to 12-9 overall and 6-0 in the Horizon League while the Norse drop to 6-8 and 3-3

The Penguins came out strong winning the doubles point on the heels of 6-1 and 6-2 wins. At No. 2, Noelly Longi Nsimba and Imaan Hassim defeated Taylor Culbertson and Sydney Power. At No. 3, Ana Stroe and Anastasiia Khokhlova beat Hannah Watton and Katja Dijanezevic by a score of 6-2.

In singles play, Sofia Macias defeated Maria Koo 6-2, 7-5 at No. 2. At No. 3, Khokhlova beat Power 6-2, 7-5. At No. 4, Hassim defeated Culbertson 6-1, 7-5 and at No. 5, Tamara Teufl beat Watton 6-4, 6-4.

The Norse picked up close wins at No. 1 and No. 6 singles.

YSU closes out its home season on Sunday morning when it plays host to Wright State. The Raiders sufferd a 4-3 defeat at Cleveland State on Saturday.
