Burak Victorious In Horizon League Debut at Detroit

Southfield, Mich. — The Youngstown State women's tennis team lost to Detroit on Saturday 6-1 at the Franklin Athletic Club. Freshman Marta Burak won here Horizon League debut at No. 1 singles.

Burak defeated Raina Halabi in straight sets in the No. 1 singles match 6-0, 6-2. Burak's win was the only Penguin win of the day.  Senior Lauren Hankle came close, but fell in three sets to Chloe Karoub 6-0, 3-6, 10-4.

Coach Mark Klysner said the Penguins continue to show signs of improvment and commend them for not giving up.

"We had a tough loss, but I think we competed well," Klysner said. "Maybe not our best tennis but we didn't give up. Marta played extremely efficient in her match and managed to give us a point at the top spot again."

Youngstown State plays host to Duquense on Wednesday at Noon before playing at Cleveland State on Saturday afternoon.
