Soccer Picks Up Second Exhibition Win over Cal (Pa.), 2-1
Youngstown -- Junior Chelsey Haney scored a goal and assisted on another, and freshman Karlee Kline scored the game-winner as the Youngstown State women's soccer team defeated Cal (Pa.), 2-1, in a three 30-minute period exhibition game on Monday.
Just five minutes into the match, Cal (Pa.) scored on a rebounded shot off the crossbar to take a 1-0 lead.
The Penguins evened the match when Haney gathered a center from Brittany Tenis and beat the goalkeeper and placed a strike into the lower left corner of the net.
Kline gave the Penguins the lead for good at the 11 minute mark of the second period after a cross by Haney found senior Rachel Morrison whose pass gave Kline an open angle to the lower right corner of the net.
For the match, the Penguins took 20 shots, including 11 shots on goal.
The Penguins open the 2013 season at Niagara, Friday, Aug. 23, at 7 p.m.
