Heimlich Places Fifth to Lead YSU at NIU Snowbird Intercollegiate
Tampa, Fla. -- Youngstown State junior Sarah Heimlich placed fifth to lead the Penguins women's golf team at the NIU Snowbird Intercollegiate which concluded on Friday at the Pebble Creek Golf Club. YSU placed fifth out of 10 teams in the event.
Heimlich moved up 10 spots after the first round. After carding an 80 on Thursday, Heimlich carded a 75 to finish with 155. Southern Illinois' Margaret Gilley won the event with a 147.
The Penguins had a 316 on Friday which was a 13-stroke improvement from their 329 which they shot on Thursday. YSU's total of 645 was just three shots out of fourth place. Southern Illinois won the event with a 620.
Allison Mitzel had a strong round on Tuesday to finish 12th with a 160 (82-78). Aislynn Merling finished 24th with a 165 (83-82), Sana Khan was 28th with a 166 and Angela Molaskey finished 43rd.
The Penguins return to action on March 26 at the 54-hole Richmond Invitational.
