Youngstown -- Youngstown State softball signee Samantha Snodgrass (South Charleston, W. Va.) was named the West Virginia Gatorade Softball Player of the Year on Wednesday. Snodgrass, a right-handed pitcher for St. Albans High School, signed a National Letter of Intent with YSU in November.

Detroit, Mich. -- Senior Cheryl Cale fired an impressive two-hit shutout with five strike outs to lead the Youngstown State softball team to a 2-0 victory and a sweep of Horizon League foe Detroit on Thursday afternoon at Buysse Ballpark. The Penguins improve to 12-22 overall and 5-4 in the Horizon League and now have won four straight games for the first time since 2006.
