Wilmington, N.C. -- Freshman Maddi Lusk fired a two-hit shutout with a career-high eight strikeouts and drove in a run to lead the Youngstown State softball team to a 3-0 win over Siena on Saturday afternoon. The Penguins also lost to UNC-Wilmington, 7-0.

Lusk retired the first 17 batters she faced and had a perfect game for 5.2 innings.

The Penguins improve to 5-16 on the year and return to action with a doubleheader against Akron, Tuesday, March 21, in the 2017 home opener at the YSU Softball Field. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.

Youngstown State used a three-run third inning for the game's only runs. Junior Hannah Lucas led off the innning with a walk and moved to third on a passed ball. Junior Cali Mikovich plated Lucas with a single to center field, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch.

Lusk singled to right field to score Mikovich with YSU's second run and, after junior Brittney Moffatt's single, senior Sarah Dowd drove in Lusk on a single to left field.

Against UNC-Wilmington, Mikovich and junior Kelly Thompson-Cappadocio each collected singles in the 7-0 loss.
