Clinton, S.C. -- The Youngstown State softball team split a doubleheader at Presbyterian on Tuesday afternoon. The Penguins dropped a 4-3 decision before rebounding for a 4-2 win in the nightcap.

With the split, the Penguins improve to 3-13 overall.

In the opener, junior Stevie Taylor blasted a three-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to give the Penguins a 3-1 lead. The Bluehose, though, rallied and blasted a three-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning  for the 4-3 win.

In game two, seniors Brittney Moffatt and Alexandria Gibson and junior Alexis Roach each had two hits to lead the Penguins to a 4-2 win.

The Penguins used a three-run fifth inning to break a 1-1 tie. After a Hannah Lucas reached on an error and move to third after a ground out and wild pitch, Moffatt's single through the left side plated Lucas with the go-ahead run. Gibson then ripped a triple down the right-field line to plate Moffatt and then scored on a throwing error.

Senior Caitlyn Minney tossed a complete-game five hitter with four strikeouts to pick up her second win of the year.

The Penguins face East Carolina, Wednesday, at 5 p.m.
