Softball's 12-Hit Attack Leads to 9-1 Win, Series Sweep Over Detroit
Detroit, Mich. -- Senior Jordan Ingalls went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and junior Vicky Rumph went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run to lead the Youngstown State softball team to a 9-1 win and a season series sweep over Detroit on Thursday afternoon.
With the win, the Guins improve to 24-12-1 overall and 8-7 in the Horizon League, while Detoit falls to 10-29 overall and 2-12 in the league.
Sophomore Casey Crozier pitched 5.1 scoreless innings with five strikeouts to pick up her 11th victory of the season.
The Guins scored in every inning beginning with an RBI-double by Rumph in the top of the first inning.
Back-to-back doubles by Meenachan and senior Amanda Palmore int he top of second gave the Guins a 3-0 advantage after two.
Rumph then put the Guins ahead 5-0 two a two-run blast in the top of the third then, in the fourth, a bases-loaded wild pitch and a sacrifice fly by Jordan Ingalls extend the YSU lead to 7-0.
Sarah Ingalls led off the top of the fifth with a solo home run - her third of the season - to put the Guins up 8-0.
After Detroit scored one in the bottom half of the fifth, the Guins answered with one more in the sixth when Gabel knocked in Jordan Ingalls with a two-out single.
The Guins host Wright State in a three-game series, April 21-22, at McCune Park in Canfield, Ohio. First pitch Saturday is at 1 p.m.
