Penguins Win Three Singles Matches Against Saint Francis

Loretto, Pa. - The Youngstown State men's tennis team won three singles matches, but dropped a 4-3 decision to Saint Francis (Pa.) on Friday afternoon at the  Ebensburg Tennis Center.

YSU (2-5) claimed wins at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles against the Red Flash (5-1).

Winning at No. 4 was Luke Purser in his YSU debut by a score of 6-1, 4-6, 11-9 over Rodrigo Tico. At No 5, Bassem El Mekawi rallied for a 3-6, 6-3, 10-8 victory over Plamen Avuski. At No. 6, Gabriel Tolesani won 6-0, 6-0 over Robin van der Heijden.

The Red Flash won two of three doubles matches to take the point. At No. 2, Matthew Kritzinger and Purser won 6-3 but SFU won 6-3 at No. 1 and 6-4 at No. 3.

The Penguins return to action on Sunday morning when they play host to Carnegie Mellon at the Boardman Tennis Center. First serve is set for 9 a.m.
