Junior YSU men's golfer D.J. Holub fired rounds of 72 (even-par) and 71 (one-under) to garner a 143 (-1) 36-hole total at the Catawba Island Club in Port Clinton, Ohio, to advance to the 2014 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship which will take place in July.
The Reminderville, Ohio, native has now qualified for the APL Championship for the second consecutive year in a row. At the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship last year, Holub was 109th out of 156 with a two-round total of 151. He opened the tournament with a 79 before firing a 72 on his second round at the Laurel Hill Golf Club in Lawton, Va.
Holub enters the APL Championship coming off a superb year of play for Youngstown State. During the 2013-14 season Holub finished in the top-20 in six of 10 tournaments including a third-place standing at the BGSU John Piper Intercollegiate last fall.
The APL Championship participant slugged a season team-best round of 64 (-8) 18-hole score at the BGSU John Piper Intercollegiate.
The championship rounds begin July 14 at the Sand Creek Golf Course in Newton, Kansas. Championship play will conclude on July 19.
