Opening Tip
• The Youngstown State men's basketball team opens a two-game homestand when its host Mid-American Conference member Central Michigan, Tuesday, Dec. 4. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. at the Beeghly Center.
 
The Penguins close out the homestand with their final home non-league game against Western Michigan, Saturday, Dec. 8. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m. and is part of a YSU men's and women's basketball doubleheader.

The Coaches
• Jerrod Calhoun is in his second year at Youngstown State and his seventh season overall as a head coach. The 13th head coach in program history, Calhoun owns a career mark of 135-68 overall and is 11-30 at Youngstown State. The Cleveland, Ohio, native came to YSU after spending five years at Fairmont State, where he led the Fighting Falcons to the 2017 NCAA Division II National Championship game and a 34-3 overall record. Calhoun was named the 2017 Mountain East Conference Coach of the Year and the Mountain East Conference Men's Sports Coach of the Year.
 
• Keno Davis is in his seventh season as the head coach at Central Michigan and his 11th season overall as a head coach. Davis owns a 104-99 record with the Chippewas and a 178-154 career mark. Davis led Drake to a 28-5 overall record in 2007-08 and was the head coach at Providence from 2008-11.
 
 
Storylines and Notes
• Junior Kendale Hampton tied a career high with seven 3-pointers made against Robert Morris on Nov. 28. He also led the Penguins with a career-high 32 points with seven 3s in the Penguin's 94-83 win over Columbia on Nov. 16. His seven 3-pointers are tied for fourth on the YSU single-season chart. The last YSU player to make at least seven 3s in a game was Matt Donlan against Robert Morris on Nov. 30, 2016. Hampton is just the sixth player in school history to record multiple games of at least seven 3-pointers made.
 
• This is the eighth meeting between Youngstown State and Central Michigan in a series that dates back to 1985. The Chippewas own a 5-2 series advantage and won the last meeting, 75-63, in Mount Pleasant, Mich., in 2014. YSU won, 86-75, the last time these teams played at the Beeghly Center in 2013. The Penguins also defeated the Chippewas, 74-50, on Nov. 8, 2006, in East Lansing, Mich.
 
• The Penguins have made at least 10 3-pointers four times this season and have made at least eight 3s in a game on eight occasions.
 
• In Youngstown State's nine games, the Penguins have had five different leading scorers. Junior Kendale Hampton has led the Penguins three times, Donel Cathcart III and sophomore Garrett Covington were tops in scoring twice while junior Devin Morgan and freshman Olamide Pedersen have all led in scoring once.
 
• Junior Donel Cathcart III and freshman Darius Quisenberry each scored career highs with 27 and 21 points, respectively, against FIU on Nov. 18. It marked the first time two player reached at least 20 points in the same game since Feb. 24, 2018.

Bohannon Named Preseason All-Horizon League Second-Team
• Sophomore Naz Bohannon was named to the 2018 Preseason All-Horizon League Team after a vote of the league's head coaches, athletics communications directors and media.
• Bohannon was named to the Horizon League All-Freshman Team in 2017-18 after averaging 7.2 points and 8.1 rebounds per game, which ranked sixth in the Horizon League.
• He scored 230 points and grabbed 259 rebounds, the most by a YSU player since 1991-92. 
• Bohannon had at least 10 rebounds seven times and posted four double-doubles. 
• Bohannon also scored in double figures eight times and posted a career-high 16 points against Cleveland State on March 2.
 
About Central Michigan
• Central Michigan enters the game with an overall record of 6-2 and is coming off an 89-62 loss to TCU.
• Leading the Chippewas is Larry Austin with 19 points per game and Kevin McKay with 17.3 points per game.
• Shawn Roundtree is also averaging in double figures with 14 points per game.
• Central Michigan had won three straight contest before falling to TCU.
