Defense Holds Siena Scoreless Until Late in Second Half in 2-1 Loss

Loudonville, N.Y. -- The YSU soccer team held Siena scoreless for 68 minutes, but could not stop two late scores in the second half. Jodi Bowlen helped narrow the scoring margin with her goal in the final two minutes of the game, but the Penguins rally was too late in the 2-1 loss to the Saints.
Goalkeeper Mariah Snyder saved three of Siena's shots while the defense helped to block two more of the the Saints scoring attempts. Bowlen also attempted a shot on goal for the Guins at the 25-minute mark but was stopped by goalkeeper Laura Ettinger. Neither team could connect with the net in the first half.

YSU's defense continued to stop the Saints shots until 68:59 into the game as Ashleigh Barone knocked the ball in from inside the box. Tabitha Tice and Chelsea Maguire assisted the goal.

Less than 10 minutes later Barone fired another shot off a breakaway to put her team up by two scores.

YSU's offense then went to work as Jordan Gapczynski took two shots in hopes of putting the Guins on the board. Bowlen then took advantage of a rebound off the crossbar to give YSU its first score the afternoon. Bowlen made one final attempt to tie the game with a header that was saved in the final two minutes of the match.

YSU will travel to Pittsburgh on Thursday evening to face Duquesne. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
