Snyder Sets School Record For Shutouts In Tie Against Green Bay

    Youngstown -- Youngstown State soccer team battled with Horizon League foe Green Bay for 110 minutes, but neither team could find the net in the double overtime tie on Friday night. The game marked Snyder's fourth shutout of the year and set the school record for most shutouts in a season.

    The Penguins outshot the Phoenix 4-1 in overtime. Jodi Bowlen made an attempt to score just two minutes into the first overtime as Maddie Drush came up with the save. Jordan Gapczynski fired her fifth shot of the night on a free kick that was also saved by Drush. Jodi Bowlen made the last shot that was saved as time expired on the first overtime period.

    The YSU's defense worked to keep Green Bay out of Penguin territory for the remaining 10 minutes of the game. Kelsey Kempton made one final attempt to claim the win with her shot the was wide of the net at 107:37. 

    Laura Hayward took Green Bay's only shot in the two extra periods. Snyder made the save to keep the game alive and stopped eight scoring attempts in regulation.

    Gapczynski led the team with five shots  while Lauren Brennan, Kelsey Kempton and Iyesha Olliviere each took three shots helping to bring the Guins shot total to 18 for the night.

    YSU will play again at home on Sunday at Noon against Milwaukee.
