Soccer Holds
Lead Until Final Minutes in 2-1 Loss
to Detroit
Youngstown --
The YSU soccer team scored early in
the first half and held Detroit
scoreless until the final 12 minutes
of the game. Despite strong
defensive efforts the Titans put up
two goals within nine minutes of
each other to take the 2-1
lead and claim the win over the
Penguins
Defender
Keeley Rice scored her first goal of
the season off a free kick at 16:45
into the first half to give YSU the
1-0 lead that it would hold for most
of the game. Nina Pannoni, Brittny
Humphrey and Lauren Brennan each
took a shot for YSU in the first
half.
Mariah Snyder
stopped the Titans only shot on goal
before leaving with an injury in the
final 15 minutes of play.
Freshman
Nicole Kline made her first
collegiate appearance as goalkeeper
in hopes of holding on to the lead.
Just minutes later Nicole
Gipson headed a shot in off the
cross from Allison Suschak and
Selena Stanski to tie the game up
for Detroit,
Carrie Wack
and Lauren Brennan made last minute
scoring attempts Guins, but
Detroit's Alyssa Korson landed a
shot inside the net to lift her team
past YSU in the final three
minutes of the game.
YSU will
continue league action on Sunday on
the road against Butler at 1 p.m. |
