Youngstown State finished 17th in the final Capital One Cup men's standings which were announced this week.

The Penguins earned 36 points thanks to an appearance in the Division I National Championship Football Game in January. YSU tied for 17th with Gonzaga, which earned 36 points for reaching the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship Game in April.

YSU went 12-4 on the season and reached its seventh FCS title game in school history and first since 1999 during the 2016 season.

Ohio State placed first on the men's side finishing with 111 points while Stanford took the top spot in women's athletics with 175.5 points. Each year, programs earn points based on its teams' top-10 finishes in NCAA Division I championships and in final official coaches' polls across 21 women's and 20 men's sports as they compete to win the Capital One Cup trophy and a combined $400,000 in scholarships for student-athletes.

Currently in its seventh year, the Capital One Cup recognizes NCAA Division I athletics programs for their cumulative on-field performance across multiple men's and women's sports. Since 2011, Capital One has contributed $2.8 million in student-athlete scholarships.
